Etymology[]

Appearance[]
Looks like the most physically older of Shiguma Arakawa's pupils, he is actually the same age as Kyoji.
He dresses more casuallys, Maikeru wears an unbuttoned jacket, a shirt and jeans. When he performs he usually wears a white kimono.
Previously, he used to have his hair bleached.[1]

Maikeru Arakawa is a relaxed, flirtatious and outgoing pupil who enjoys giving his fellow pet names, such as "teddy bear" for Koguma and "Akaneru" for Akane. He often provides comic relief during practice sessions and is generally well-liked by his peers.
Although it seems like he doesn't take rakugo seriously, Maikeru is a talented person who is on the level of one of the treasures of the generation. After Shinta's expulsion and becoming Shiguma's oldest pupil, Maikeru would begin to give advice to his younger siblings, becoming a brotherly figure for them, considering them as his true siblings.
Before being a rakugoka, Maikeru was a selfish person, preferring to work alone rather than in a team since that way he could do things the way he wanted. However, over time and thanks to the influence of the Shiguma school, Maikeru has changed, becoming a person more outgoing and loved by others, in addition to depending on others and offering help to others.[2]

Maikeru usually uses the Nin to determine the essence of a rakugoka and its connection with the story to be interpreted.[3]
History[]
Since elementary school, Maikeru was someone who was good at everything he set his mind to, causing him to try to do things alone rather than working as a team, which caused big problems in the clubs he joined, because of this Maikeru would decide to do things that he could do alone. One day at his work in a book cafe, there would be a Rakugo presentation given by his future master Shiguma Arakawa.
Maikeru would be so impressed by this that he would ask Shiguma to be his disciple since according to him on the rakugo he could do everything on his own. Shiguma would make him one of his disciples.
At some point he became friends with Shinta and they used to spend time together. Shinta would teach him the story: Changing Time.[4]
Due to Shinta's expulsion, he is Shiguma's oldest pupil.
