Kashiwaya School (
The school is part of the Rakugo Federation.
Etymology[]
- The surname Kashiwaya means "oak/cypress" (柏) (kashiwa) and "expert/performer" (家) (ya).
History[]
For generations, the leaders of the Kashiwaya school have inherited the name "Miroku" and together with the "Enso" of the Sanmeitei School have been the pillars of edo rakugo.[1]
One of its members was Kiroku Kashiwaya, who was expelled from the school because his students were considered impure for following the legacy of the Kashiwaya. After being expelled, he and his disciples decided to make a name for themselves, which would later be known as the Arakawa School.[2][3]
Ranks[]
As in other schools, in the Kashiwaya School the rakugokas are classified using the 3 ranks:
- Zenza
- Futatsume
- Shin'uchi
Being the Shinuchi rank, the highest rank that can be aspired to in the school. Until now, the existence of 1 Shinuchi rank rakugoka in the school is known.
